Buyer Beware
The Schwinn Suburban 7sp Womens Comfort Bike does not come assembled if you purchase it online. And apparently it is not the most easy bike to put together to the point where you have no issues. An appointment with your local bike shop can help here – save yourself both time and frustration. (I tuned my new bike recently for a mere $40.00).

Although I honestly couldn’t find too much (good or bad) about this modern Schwinn Suburban 7sp (most threads and comments spoke of the very popular 1970s Schwinn Suburban make and the restoration of such), it does seem like the general consensus is that this is a great bike for doing some seriously touring and cruising.

I’ve done some looking around myself, and Amazon.com seems to be the ideal spot to pick up this bike. Why? Mostly because you get free super saver shipping to anywhere in the United States! In this article, I’m basically going to give you the lowdown on the Schwinn Varisty Carbon Bike – what’s great about it, and what’s not. Schwinn Varsity Review
The Schwinn Varsity is a road bike that is apparently built for speed and performance. It is lightweight, fast, and stiff, and according to bike enthusiasts, it’s one of those “best value for your money” type bikes.
Schwinn bikes are known these days for being very smooth and comfortable rides, and the Varsity apparently is no different. It is built with aerodynamics in mind, as the forks, top tube and bottom tube are all shaped for better wind resistance. Even the seat and chain stays are curved inward a little and then flare out to the wheel hub to giving you that extra little edge.
According to a current user, this bike is nice and lightweight. Although with packaging it comes to approx 40 pounds, when assembled and ready to go, the bike weighs only 22lb, which, she says, is “easily able to be lifted over one’s shoulder”.
A Warning For You Tall People Out There…
Reviews on the Varsity do discuss the thought that this might not be the right bike for those of you who are over 6 feet tall. Although some reviewers claimed their bikes came in at 56”, the general consensus is that the Varsity comes in at about 52-54”. Strange that the actual height isn’t listed on ANY sales site, I think, but anyways, keep that in mind.

Putting The Bike Together
The Schwinn Varisty Carbon does come only partially assembled, like all other bikes you buy online. Apparently it is quite simple to assemble, but as with most new bikes (assembled or not), it may need some adjustments to the gears, derailleurs, breaks, or something else to get it just right. (When I bought my own bike a few weeks ago, I simply brought it into my local bike shop for a tune-up. Cost me only $40 and was totally worth it.)
What Is the Public Saying About This Bike?
I spent some time on the net looking for reviews and comments about the Schwinn Varsity Carbon bike. I wanted to see what people outside the company sites were saying, good or bad, about the bike. I was impressed with what I found!
One reviewer at Walmart.com says,
“Handling is awesome, not jittery at all like other road bikes I’ve tried, it’s very smooth on the road, very composed and predictable. This bike and the manufacturing is way ahead of the game. This bike puts $1000 bikes to shame!”
Another, on the same website, writes,
“I have friends who have $1500 plus road bikes and this bike feels just as good. Overall I would recommend this bike to anyone who wants to look into riding bikes for a hobby or competitively.”

There were many such reviews! The general consensus seems to be that the Schwinn Varsity is a fantastic bike for its price range. Able to keep up with much more expensive models, and ready to go the distance.
Advice For Buying A Schwinn Varsity Online
If you are planning to buy the Schwinn Varsity Carbon online, there are a few things you should know.
Firstly, you can buy Schwinn bikes, including the Varsity Carbon, on a number of websites, but these websites can be quite different from each other. They offer different prices, slightly different makes (some lacking the carbon aspect), or take different amounts of time to get to your door.
After researching, I discovered that the best price you can find is at Amazon.com. It’s listed at $599.99 regular price, but is available at a STEAL for either $429.49 + $6.95 shipping to any US location (or $445.35 with free Super-Saver shipping). That’s $170.00 off the regular price!!
Live in Canada? If you live outside the US, just to warn you, you CAN get your hands on this bike, but the shipping will be quite expensive. I worked out the price to somewhere in Ontario, Canada, just to see, and the link from the Amazon.com Home was the only one that allowed it. The shipping was an additional $180.00.
I checked Walmart.com, which also sells this bike, but interestingly enough, they listed it at $549.00 with free shipping to your local store. So $399.02 at Amazon.com is definitely the best price for this road bike. If you do decide to pick it up, I wish you happy travels!
